Fishing Report - 04/22/05
Hello from the Tropics
The Oklahoma boys were in town. Jim Wilson, Jim Davis, Will Reagan, Pete Erunel, Andy Reynolds, Steve Wells, Richard (Crawdad) Crawford, Todd Chapman and Scott Akers arrived in Panama loaded with light tackle and ready to fish. The week started at a good pace with the crew landing 3 Roosters and 2 Cuberas on the first day! Jim was especially happy with the first days action putting his tackle to the test on the largest Rooster of the week at 46lbs!
As the week progressed the inshore and offshore fishing seemed somewhat slow compared to weeks past, but the crew didn't give up and invested the time and effort to see some sensational catches. Andy, an accomplished and avid angler, was our super light tackle man. He used small Shimano reels and light rods and landed several dozen jacks, small grouper, and snapper! Andy also had a very nice Cubera and Rooster Fish that he landed with live bait or as they say in Oklahoma ‚ "pot licking". Crawdad could not do any wrong fishing all day and most nights (even fishing at night off the barge). Crawdad was our top inshore angler for the week with 5 Cubera in one day and several nice Roosters. I was happy that everyone took interest in the snook fishing and had the chance to at least hook one fish with Will landing the largest of the week at 21 lbs. The jig fishing was also fairly good with the crew landing several nice fish on the iron including Jim Davis' last day, last hour wild fight with a Wahoo on the iron! Jim fought the wild fish for nearly 15 minutes only to have the fish shake the hooks just inches from the gaff.
The offshore action was a bit slow but acceptable. The huge schools of Porpoise and Tuna were in the area, but the tuna seemed reluctant to bite! Even with the semi-slow bite we had some nice size fish with Pete catching the largest Tuna of the week weighing just over 200 lbs! Todd also had short battle with a nice tuna on the fifth day tipping the scales at over 100 lbs! With a few wahoo starting to show and the guys landing two at Jiciron the crew ended up with a well rounded week of both inshore and offshore fishing!
It was another great week at Coiba guys! Thanks for your effort and all of the lessons on light tackle....We look forward to seeing you next year!
Good Fishing
