Fishing Report - 3/18/05
Hello from the tropics,
The California boys were in town and the fishing at Coiba was once again sensational! We had a group of 6 Coiba new comers last week. Curt Davison, Tom Janousek, Jim Janousek, Randy Pauly, Roger Borrell and his brother Bob Borrell came to Panama loaded for bear, landing with literally a truck load of custom fishing tackle. This crew has years of experience Tuna fishing, long range fishing and iron casting off the coast of California and the Baja Peninsula and came to Panama to test their tackle Cobia style! The trip started off with a bang with the crew landing 4 tuna over 200 pounds on the first day with Roger's being the largest of the day at 240lbs!!!! Although the Tuna action seemed to get a bit spotty as the week continued we did have several other monster fish landed including Tom's 250 pound Tuna!
The week was also loaded with inshore action on the iron......These guys have perfected this popular yo-yo/jig technique and as we have found in the past it is super exciting and highly effective! Good numbers of Amberjacks, Cubera Snapper, Rock Snapper, Silk Snapper, Mullet Snapper, and even African Pompano jumped at the jig and gave the guys a good look at the verity of hard fighting fish at Coiba Island! The inshore fish were also respondent to live bait and my favorite...top-water lures including Roger's 35 pound Rooster landed on live bait. A huge 78 pound Amberjack Curt wrestled to the boat, and Tom's exceptional Broom Tail Grouper weighting in at 60 pounds!!
Great week guys.....congrats for a great trip at Coiba we hope to see you next year!!
Good Fishing,
Captain Travis
