Fishing Report - 3/10/05
Hello from the Tropics,
Wahoo was the word, as the bite was in full force at Jicaron. Tuna, great inshore fishing, and a monster Marlin rounded out the week. The MIT crew was at Coiba and the fish showed up to greet them. Last weeks trip was a split, which had us fishing two three day trips with 9 guests each trip. On the second day Team Ponchera headed south looking for some inshore action while both Lucho and Sergio headed offshore Montousa. Efrain, Carlos, and his son Carlito, ran into some great Wahoo action hooking ten and landing five aboard the Ponchera. Team Sergio also found some action, hooking into a very large Tuna which after a 2 1/2 hour battle broke the line. Team Lucho had their hands full as well, with an XXXL Marlin. The crew only saw the Marlin twice over the 51/2 hour battle and everybody on the boat got a chance to test their strength tugging on the Black. In the last hour of the fight, the crew decided to test the tackle and buttoned up the drag to 45 lbs of pressure. The line finally gave way and after 5 hours the guys were left with a fish story. The Marlin was estimated at 700 + lbs.
As the week continued the tuna bite picked up and everyone had the chance to pull on monster Tuna as Team Sergio landed a 266 lb fish, Team Lucho had a 252lb and team Ponchera landed a 170. The inshore fishing was also very good with good action casting and bottom dropping with the guys landing several Cubera, Trevally, and a nice Grouper!
It was a great week guys we look forward to seeing you next year!
