Fishing Report - 2/24/05
Hello from the tropics,
Tuna until the crew yelled STOP, a few Sails, Cubera Snapper, Rooster Fish, a vicious Blue Trevally and many other inshore fish; another great week at Coiba Island! Old time Pesca Panama friends and guest Alan Barwick, Robert Tucker, and Michael Hicks were joined by their fishing buddies and new comers to Coiba; Rick Gutierrez, Kurt Scheetz, and his brother Richard Scheetz.
The Tuna bite continues with this week's crew landing 3 fish over the 200 pound mark and many more form 60 to 170 pounds. Team Macho was the boat to contend with when, in the middle of the week he tried to break Rick G. and Kurt landing 9 giant Yellow Fin Tuna and 2 sails in one day!! Team Sergio also did well with the monster Yellow Fin helping Michael land his 230lb fish! The action continued through the week as the Tuna and Porpoise took residence on top of Hannibal Bank! Alan tried his hand at light tackle tuna fishing, casting a small spinning rod and top-water plug. The schoolie Tuna crashed the plug and Alan landed the fish. After Alan's battle the rod was laid to rest, as it became the seventh spinning rod to come apart for team Ponchera this year. Richard also took part in the light tackle offshore fishing, casting to a 100lb plus Sail Fish that came in behind the boat. The Sail could not resist the top water action and the fight was on. The offshore fishing once again left our anglers looking forward to getting back to the states and to work...where they could rest!
The inshore fishing showed signs of picking up with good action at Coiba. Rick and Robert tore up the Roosters on the first day hooking five and landing four, unlucky number five was ripped of the hook by a monster Cubera Snapper. Alan once again had great luck with casting landing two Roosters; 25 lbs and 40 lbs, on the second day. Michael showed the Cuberas he was not scared to go sub-surface and had good luck on bait and jig.
What a great week guys! Welcome back and we look forward to seeing you next year!
Good fishing,
Captain Travis
