Fishing Report - 01/18/15

We began this week’s adventure anchoring in a nearshore group of islands and had a great first half-day of fishing, reporting 20 fish caught. This week we had six anglers from Denmark, and three from the USA.  Miss Mette Hviid went to fish with Captain Tito and caught a 40lb cubera snapper using a popper.  Kris Jeffegen was fishing with Captain Navas and he caught his first ever corvina of 5lbs with a light rod and Rapala.  They also reported numerous sierra mackerel and jack crevalle.  Monday we moved to lovely, remote Isla Coiba, where we enjoyed perfect weather. The boats went to Montuosa island looking for Marlin all day, and Miss Mette caught her first Black Marlin of 300lbs trolling one of our favorite plastic lures.  Also Mr. Sven caught a 25lb Roosterfish with popper around Coiba island.  Captain Johnatan found a Yellowfin Tuna school on Hannibal Bank (they’re arriving earlier than normal this year) and Mr. Ronald Smith, Robert and Joshua Smith caught eleven Tuna with poppers and 15 mullet snappers!  What a day! Tuesday, Captain Tito went to Hannibal Bank and Soren Mathiesen caught his first Black Marlin of 400lbs with a trolling lure again, and Mr Sven caugth a 30lb Roosterfish with a large popper. Wednesday the boats went to fish around the scenic and even more remote Jicaron and Jicarita islands. Captain Jonathan found another tuna school and his anglers caught ten up to 50lbs., all with poppers. Joshua Smith caught a black snapper from the beach.  Michael Krogh was fishing with Captain Navas and he caught a monster 300lb. bull shark. The diversity was amazing again this week.  Thursday the boats went to Montuosa island and Miss Mette and her husband fought a Black Marlin of 250lbs using a 25000 Shimano Saragossa spinning setup expertly baited with a belly strip, and brought this beautiful fish boatside in almost exactly one hour.  Capt Jonathan’s boat caught another Black Marlin of 250lbs with bait, this time a short, intense fight. Also Mr. Ronald caught a 50lb. mahi mahi with bait. Captain Navas’s anglers caught a 45lb. Amberjack in a favorite Coiba bay.

Our guests experienced an unforgettable trip to Panama and sampled the wide array of species this unique area offers.  Thanks to all. Come see us again soon!
